Oarsman's Bay Lodge

Nacula Island sits at the northern tip of Fiji's Yasawa chain, and Oarsman's Bay Lodge holds a stretch of its beach on Nalova Bay. The sand runs white and fine at the shoreline. A fringing reef lies close enough to reach by fin and mask, and the lodge lends kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear at no charge. Bures and studios line the beachfront, each with an outdoor shower and a hammock strung against the palms; the Beach View bures sit one row back, screened by garden planting but still holding a sea view. The Vale Levu, largest of the rooms at 60 m², adds a hanging egg chair to its terrace and a pair of beachfront hammocks of its own. Evenings arrive with a sea breeze through louvered timber windows, and you can hear the water from most of the rooms after dark. A ten-minute boat crossing reaches Yaromo, a private island the lodge uses for day trips and small weddings. Further out, the limestone caves of Sawa-i-Lau are reached by daily excursion, closed only on Sundays at the landowners' request. The lodge is adults only, does not offer diving, and runs a compulsory meal plan billed separately from the room. Arrival is by catamaran from Port Denarau, a crossing of roughly four and a half hours, or by helicopter in thirty minutes.
