Ocean Lodge
Founded as a kite and windsurf school on Sakalava Bay, Ocean Lodge has grown into a small beachfront base built around one thing: direct access to the water. The lagoon sits right in front of the property, sheltered by a coral reef and mostly sandy underfoot, which keeps conditions steady enough for a first lesson and lively enough for an advanced rider chasing jibes. It is a compact stay. Instructors here are IKO-certified, teaching kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf side by side, with radio-guided coaching for offshore sessions and rental gear updated regularly for all three disciplines. Bungalows face the lagoon directly, built from wood, straw and linen, each with a private terrace and Wi-Fi via Starlink. Riders can walk out of the bungalow with a board or wing already rigged and be sailing within minutes, no transport required. The wind here, known locally as the Varatraza, blows steadily from April to November, and you can watch it push riders across the flat water from the restaurant terrace at lunch. That restaurant sits on the beach itself, serving fresh fish, lagoon crab and zebu meat, with half-board and full-board options for guests who prefer not to think about meals between sessions. Excursions run further afield to the Emerald Sea and Red Tsingy, though the sailing itself rarely requires leaving the bay.
