Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa

Framed by mature coconut palms and a wide stretch of white sand, Ocean Paradise sits on Zanzibar's north-east coast facing the Indian Ocean. The 100 rooms and suites take the form of round chalets under pitched makuti-thatch roofs, arranged across landscaped grounds that step down toward the water. Superior Seafront rooms sit closest, just five to ten metres from the beach with direct access onto the sand; Standard Garden rooms sit furthest back, around 250 metres inland near reception. It is a layered resort, not a single strip of rooms facing the sea. The Junior Suites add a separate lounge and second bathroom, useful for families or longer stays. Three restaurants cover the day: Ocean Restaurant two floors up for breakfast with ocean views, Jahazi by the pool for wood-fired pizza, and Mawimbi on the beachfront for Zanzibari seafood and Swahili dishes. A dive centre runs alongside kayaking, windsurfing and sailing, and reef trips depend on the tide. Bathtubs are absent by design; the resort recycles its water for the gardens instead. Staff and produce are drawn largely from the neighbouring village of Pwani Mchangani, whose school and clinic the resort has helped fund since 2004. Check-in runs from 2pm.
