Ocean Pearl Fuvahmulah
Set on Fuvahmulah, the only inhabited atoll in the Maldives shaped as one landmass rather than a scatter of islets, Ocean Pearl stands as the island's tallest hotel. The building rises above a low skyline of guesthouses and dive shops, its rooftop pool giving a clear line over rooftops to the ocean beyond. It is a short walk from Thoondu Beach, known locally for its pale pebbles rather than powder sand, and close enough to the port that a dive boat is minutes away. Twenty-six rooms and one eight-bedroom family suite fill the property, ranging from a standard king room to ocean-view rooms with private balconies. Raskuri Restaurant serves Maldivian and international dishes indoors or on the rooftop, where dinner runs under open sky rather than a roof. Fuvahmulah itself holds freshwater lakes and both black and pale sand beaches, along with the tiger shark dives that draw much of the hotel's traffic. You can watch the sunset from the pool deck after a day underwater, drink in hand, the water still tasting of salt. Reaching the island takes a domestic flight from Velana International Airport, then a short hop by boat or road to the hotel door. Rooms come with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and daily housekeeping as standard.
