The rooms are windowless, airside, and built for a layover rather than a holiday. Oryx Airport Hotel sits on the third floor of Hamad International Airport's South Plaza, directly above the Hermès store and a short walk from the Lamp Bear sculpture that marks the terminal's centre. There is no view; the compensation is proximity. Guests never clear immigration, since access is restricted to transiting passengers, and stays are capped at 24 hours. Six room categories run from the 38 m² Superior Room to the 132 m² Family Suite, each with a king or twin bed, a mini fridge and bamboo keycards in place of plastic. A floor above, the Vitality Wellbeing & Fitness Centre holds a pool, gym, hydrotherapy tubs and a golf simulator, open to hotel guests free of charge and to other passengers for a fee. Squash courts and treatment rooms round out the fourth floor, with swimwear sold on-site and drying machines for guests without their own. Below, Qatar Duty Free runs more than 90 shops and 30 restaurants across 40,000 m². Room service operates around the clock. It is less a destination than a pause button, built entirely around one fact: the gate is somewhere else in the same building.
