Phoenix One
Wadano Forest chalet in Hakuba, framed by floor-length glass and pine
Skip to product information
Framed by floor-length glass, the living room at Phoenix One looks straight into the pines of Wadano Forest, snow settling on the branches in winter and thick green cover in summer. The chalet rises over three storeys and holds four bedrooms and four bathrooms, sleeping up to ten guests under vaulted ceilings that keep the open-plan living and dining space bright even on grey days. The kitchen is fully equipped and Western in layout, built for a group cooking together rather than a single chef working alone. It is not a hotel room stacked among others; it stands on its own plot in the forest. Downstairs, a granite bath sits alongside a sauna and a small gym, both included for guests rather than offered as extras. Underfloor heating runs through the property, and air conditioning covers the warmer months. Lower Wadano feels quiet, tucked among trees, yet the walk to Happo Village takes under five minutes and Happo One resort lies about a kilometre off. Restaurants, bars and cafes sit within easy reach on foot. Dogs are welcome, for an added cleaning fee. Check-in runs from 4pm, check-out by 10am. Guests travel by a shuttle service arranged with the property, and skis can be stored on site rather than hauled indoors.
