Pili Pili Boutique Hotel
Perched above Kibagabaga, Kigali's boutique hotel doubles as its liveliest sundowner deck

Set on a hilltop in Kibagabaga, midway between downtown Kigali and the airport, Pili Pili looks out over rolling hills that light up as the sun drops. The property opened in 2015 and works as four spaces in one: a ground-floor sports bar with seven screens and three satellite feeds, a pool with gardens and loungers, an upper-deck restaurant called Sasa, and a boutique hotel tucked above it all. Rooms range from a Studio XL for two to a 108 m² two-bedroom apartment with its own kitchen and sofa bed for five. The Deluxe Studio and Deluxe Apartment sit on the upper floors, each with a wraparound terrace facing the Kibagabaga skyline. Wood and stone run through the build, a deliberate nod to an East African lodge crossed with a beach bar. At Sasa, the kitchen grills meat and fish and turns out pizza and seafood alongside international dishes, served with a view over the hills. You can watch the sky turn from the wooden deck with a pitcher of sangria most evenings. Music runs on a set schedule, with live bands on Thursdays and Saturdays and DJ sets three nights a week. A sand-edged pool area and a small football pitch keep families occupied by day, before the same space turns into Kigali's busiest room after dark. Airport transfers and 4x4 hire can be arranged directly through the hotel.
