Set into a hillside above Deshaies, on Guadeloupe's Basse-Terre coast, Piton Bungalows sits at 300 metres altitude, high enough that trade winds move through the garden day and night. Nine wooden bungalows, each built in the Creole style and each different, are spaced through the tropical planting so that no two units overlook one another. The site is a short drive from Grande Anse beach and from the shops of Deshaies, with the Guadeloupe National Park close by.
Every bungalow is independent, with its own open terrace, small kitchen, and sea view over the garden canopy. Rooms range from compact cabins for two to a four-bedroom bungalow that sleeps up to eight. The Zenlodge has a private spa; La Cabane du Pirate, built for families, comes with its own jacuzzi. Bathrooms are semi-open to the garden. None of the bungalows has air conditioning or a television; the altitude and the wind do the work instead.
A shared pool stays open around the clock, with a covered carbet, a small library, and communal laundry nearby. You can hear birds over breakfast most mornings. It is a quiet, low-built stay, run on a simple principle: let the garden and the wind set the temperature.
