Pizzorno Lodge & Wine

Founded in 1910 and now run by a fourth generation of the Pizzorno family, the estate began as a working vineyard north of Montevideo and only later opened its doors as a place to stay. The lodge occupies the house the family once lived in, set among 21 hectares of vines planted on gentle, clay-limestone slopes in the Canelón Chico region. It is a compact stay, with seven rooms, each with a private bathroom and a small deck facing the vineyard. Doña Zulma comes with a hydromassage tub, while the Piamonte and Génova suites sleep three. Harvest is done by hand, judged by the estate's own winemakers against lab readings taken in the cellar below the tasting room. Guests can join a guided walk through the vines and cellar, followed by a wine-paired lunch in the restaurant, which opens onto three dining rooms and a garden facing the rows. The kitchen draws on family recipes passed down with the vineyard itself. Private transfers run from Montevideo's port or airport with a bilingual driver. Restaurant service starts at midday, daily, and guided tours are offered twice a day by reservation.
