Plantation Villa

The garden air here carries salt and cut grass in equal measure. Amara Villa is a boutique villa on Sri Lanka's south coast, a five-minute walk from Kabalana Beach, where surfers work a steady break and the sand runs long and open. Six suites and a two-bedroom lodge sit around a swimming pool and tropical planting, each room air-conditioned with a private bathroom, ceiling fan, and a terrace or balcony looking onto the garden. The Hibiscus, Araliya, Sepalika, and Jasmine suites range from 36.4 to 43.9 m², while Mimosa stands apart in its own garden building with twin beds under mosquito nets. Amara Lodge, at 61 m², adds a kitchen and separate living space for families or groups sharing the same quiet compound. Breakfast is included throughout. Koggala Lake lies a short drive away, its lagoon dotted with small islands, and the stilt fishermen of Kathaluwa still work the shallows nearby, a tradition kept by a handful of families in the Galle district. Whale-watching boats leave from Mirissa, half an hour off, and Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 30-minute drive. It is a compact, low-key base for a coast built around surf, tea, and turtles.
