Raiwasa Private Resort

The view is the first fact: a 180-degree sweep of the Somosomo Strait from a rise above Taveuni's coast, framed by rainforest and palm. Raiwasa is one villa, not a resort of many, with two suites joined by a shared living space and an offset kitchen. Bi-fold doors open the master bedroom onto a wraparound deck. Each bathroom has twin outdoor showers and a freestanding tub set in the open air, so you can bathe under stars with the sea audible below. The grounds run to three acres of planted garden, with rare palms, banana, papaya, pineapple, orange and lemon trees scattered through it. A three-sided infinity pool sits above the shoreline, angled toward the water. Steps lead down to a private beach. Twelve staff run the property, including a dedicated chef who serves meals across eight different spots on the grounds, drawing on Pacific Rim and Fijian cooking. A private car and driver, an activities coordinator, spa therapists and a cultural guide are all part of the stay. Guests can kayak, snorkel or paddleboard from the shore, or arrange scuba trips and reef dives further out along the strait. It is a compact stay, built for one group at a time rather than a run of rooms.
