Riad Hikaya

Tadelakt walls, hand-cut zellige and carved cedar ceilings define the interior at Riad Hikaya, a restored house in the Kasbah quarter of Marrakech's medina. The building took over five years to bring back, with local artisans relaying tilework and plasterwork by hand, room by room. It is a compact stay. Eight double rooms sit across ground and first floors, each named for an Arabic word and each fitted with its own bathroom, air conditioning and a canopy bed built by Marrakshi craftsmen. Sharaf, the largest room, opens onto a smaller, mirror-lined courtyard and keeps an antique Berber door alongside a sunken tadelakt bath. Several rooms look over the main courtyard and its pool, heated year-round and rare in a city where cold traditional pools are the norm. A hammam and spa sit on site, along with a restaurant serving Moroccan and international dishes and two roof terraces, one with a Jacuzzi. Breakfast is included and served on the property each morning. The riad stands a short walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa and the souks, with direct car drop-off at the door, and airport transfers can be arranged for the ten- to fifteen-minute journey from Marrakech Menara. Check-in runs from 2pm.
