Rosewood Manor Rakwana

The dining room's glass wall frames the tea plantation whole, mountains stacked behind it in layers of green. Rosewood Manor is a country manor built into a working tea estate at Botiyatenna, at an elevation of 860 metres, facing the ridgeline of the Sinharaja rainforest reserve. The estate is called Rockwood Valley, and the manor sits inside it, screened by cultivated slopes and a stream that runs along one edge of the property. It is a small stay, just three suites: Wild Cinnamon, Heen Bovitiya, and Handapan Falls, each named for a feature of the surrounding land. Days run cool here. Average temperatures sit between 18 and 26 degrees, the kind of climate that earned the district a nickname of its own, Little England, long before the manor existed. A butler is assigned to each stay, and meals come from an in-house chef using herbs and vegetables grown in the manor's own garden. Guests can take breakfast on the outdoor terrace, dine by the fire pit at night, or ask for a table set beside the stream. A library and an attic bar round out the house. It is a quiet base for walking, birdwatching, and doing very little else.
