Royal Isabela

Isabela's northwest coast once carried sugarcane fields and a railway line strung between the towns of Isabela and Quebradillas by bridges and tunnels. When the cane trade declined in the mid-20th century, birds, bats and wind reseeded the hills, and forest returned where plantations had stood. Royal Isabela now occupies 1,800 acres of that reclaimed ground, a stretch of cliff and shoreline on the Atlantic side of Puerto Rico. Twenty casitas sit spaced through the property, each with its own terrace and plunge pool set back from the water. Casita number one is built fully accessible, with a level approach and no interior stairs. A golf course runs along the cliff edge, and a five-acre organic garden supplies the kitchens with daily harvests, feeding both the main restaurant, La Casa, and The Grill by the fairway. You can hear the Atlantic from most rooms, and the coastline stays close at hand throughout the grounds, from the golf holes to the private dining spot tucked into a corner of the property known as A Table for Two. Guided farm tours run on request. Concierge staff arrange surfing, eFoiling and ebiking, along with yoga and spa treatments, keeping most activity within walking distance of the casitas. The Grill serves breakfast and lunch, Tuesday through Sunday.
