Ruka Peak Boutique Hotel & Restaurant
A family-run peak hotel where smoke sauna meets fine dining
Skip to product information
Carved into rock in the hotel's west wing, two cave saunas open onto a shared terrace with jacuzzis for fourteen, heated year-round and lit at night by the stars over Kuusamo. Ruka Peak sits at 430 metres above sea level, on top of Ruka fell, a family-run hotel with six double rooms and two suites plus a handful of private villas nearby. It is a small operation. Rooms use natural materials and warm tones, with large windows framing the wilderness that runs toward the Russian border; on clear winter nights, the aurora is visible from bed. The restaurant, run under chef Pekka Terävä, serves a short seasonal menu built on trout, reindeer and pike perch, with a wine cellar next door that seats up to twenty. Warming the traditional smoke sauna takes up to seven hours, so bookings are made well ahead. Beyond the hotel, guides lead snowshoe treks to a hut for coffee and a fire, husky safaris behind a six-dog team, and reindeer sleigh rides in winter; summer brings white nights and rafting on the Oulanka rapids. Meeting rooms on the upper floor hold up to twenty, with the terrace seating thirty for dinner. Check-in details and villa bookings run through the hotel directly.
