Safari Desert Camp
Wahiba Sands holds this camp among rolling dunes in Oman's Al Sharqiyah region, roughly 220 kilometres from Muscat by road. The drive runs through changing country, from city outskirts to open sand, and ends at a cluster of tents and chalets set low against the dunes. Rooms come as deluxe tents or dune-facing chalets, each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and a private outdoor seating area facing the sand. Deluxe tents sleep two adults and one child under six, furnished with a sofa, mini fridge and tea and coffee maker alongside the usual bed and bath. A restaurant serves breakfast and a buffet dinner, often built around a barbecue. Guests gather at a communal lounge and majlis, and children have a playground. It is a short walk to the dune crest. Activities run from dune bashing and quad biking to camel trekking, sandboarding and guided desert walks with a Bedouin guide, plus horse riding nearby. Evenings centre on a bonfire, cushions on carpets, and mint tea poured under a sky largely free of light pollution, good for tracing constellations or, in season, the Milky Way. Private dinners can be arranged in the dunes, with tables set on the sand. Check-in and tour timing are arranged directly with the camp.
