Salla Wilderness Lodges

Modelled on the laavu, the log-and-branch shelter that wilderness travellers once built between two pines for a night's rest and a fire, Salla Wilderness Lodges translates that shelter into a permanent ridge-top building. The lodges stand near Salla National Park, above old pine trees and the Sallatunturi fells, with panoramic windows that put the forest at the foot of the bed. There are two lodge types. The two-person lodge is a studio with a double bed, sauna, bathroom, kitchenette, and hot tub. The family lodge drops the sauna for an alcove bed 120cm wide, fitted for one or two children, and keeps the same kitchenette and hot tub. Breakfast is included at both. From the hot tub, you can watch the Northern Lights, the midnight sun, or the colour of the forest in autumn, depending on the season. Reception sits alongside a restaurant, a gift shop, and the national park's nature centre and exhibition, and guides run dog-sledding, reindeer safaris, snowshoe trips, canoeing, and hiking into the surrounding wilderness. It is a compact stay, built for two lodge configurations rather than a large room count. Check-in runs from 2pm, check-out by 11am, and pets are not permitted.
