Salty Lodge

Set on the west coast road at Mulifanua, on Samoa's island of Upolu, Salty Lodge faces the Mulifanua Lagoon across the street. The property covers 2.5 acres, with oceanview rooms at the front of the grounds and garden bungalows set further back among the trees. Each oceanview room pairs a queen bed with a single, a small kitchenette and a private balcony over the lagoon; children under twelve stay in the bungalows instead. Every bungalow is furnished differently, with its own bathroom and a kettle for tea or coffee. A dining fale sits at the centre of the property, used for breakfast and left open through the day for guests to rest or gather. There is a guest lounge near the front, shaded and unhurried. Kayaks are available for the lagoon, and fruit bats move through the treetops as the light drops in the evening. A pool is under construction, expected by July 2026. Run by Karleen and Derek, the lodge operates as a place of Christian hospitality rather than a conventional resort, hosting women's retreats and small gatherings alongside individual stays. A chapel, built partly from salvaged timber and old window frames, is planned for a quiet corner of the grounds. It is a small, deliberately unhurried stay, closer to a lagoon than to a beach, and closer to a working ministry than to a hotel.
