Samec Tourist Farm

Weathered timber and a converted granary set the tone at Samec, a farm resort above the village of Sele in the Koroška hills. The wood inside the old kašča once held grain, dried fruit and cured meat; today it forms the bones of a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, sauna and two balconies overlooking the slopes. The farm sits at 700 m. Everything here was shaped by one man's hands. Since restoration began in 1983, the farm's owner has built a treehouse called Gnezdece, a mini hayrack for children to climb, and a hand-fitted Finnish sauna with a wooden barrel for cold plunges. Four apartments in total occupy the property, ranging from the attic rooms of Jespa 1 and 2 to the treetop cabin and the granary conversion. Breakfast is the traditional Slovenian kind, taken with views of the surrounding ridgelines. Children feed the farm animals and play in a sandpit and on a trampoline. It is a working smallholding, not a resort built from scratch, and the difference shows in details worn smooth by use rather than designed for effect.
