Saxon Hotel Villas & Spa

The Saxon sits on ten acres of indigenous gardens in Sandhurst, one of Johannesburg's residential suburbs, about five minutes from the centre of Sandton. The property is not near shops or street restaurants, and it does not need to be — there is enough on the grounds to stay several days without leaving.

Fifty-three suites are spread across the main hotel and three separate villas, connected to the main building by a skywalk. Suites in the main hotel look onto the gardens or the infinity pool terrace; villa suites have private decks that open directly into the gardens. The largest suite on the property is the Nelson Mandela Platinum Suite at four hundred square metres, and every suite category includes a twenty-four-hour butler. Room facilities run to underfloor heating, complimentary minibar, and pure cotton linen.

The dining set-up has four distinct spaces: Qunu restaurant, which holds two plates in the Jenny Handley Gourmet Guide 2025 and offers two, three, or four-course menus as well as a six-course tasting menu on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings; the Olive Bar with a wraparound counter and glass doors onto the Terrace; the Piano Lounge for breakfast and afternoon tea; and the Terrace itself, which overlooks the infinity pool and gardens. The wine team includes a WSET Level 4 Diploma holder and a WSET Level 3 qualified sommelier.

Saxon Spa uses copper finishes and Himalayan salt in its treatment spaces and offers massage therapies, facials, and a manicure and pedicure lounge. A tennis court is on the property; the concierge arranges off-site golf, cultural tours, and museum visits across Johannesburg.
