Secret of the Silk Road

Set beneath the open sky of Ovorkhangai, the camp's gers stand in rows on the steppe outside Kharkhorin, felt-walled and round in the old nomadic form. Each unit is fitted with a desk, a minibar, and a private bathroom, a practical concession inside a traditional shape. Mornings start with breakfast on site before the wind picks up over the grass. It is a quiet base. Kharkhorin itself sits nearby, on the site of Kharkhorum, capital of the Mongol Empire under Chinggis Khaan in the 14th century, and the camp uses that history as its reference point rather than decoration. A restaurant and bar operate on site, along with room service and free parking, so the camp functions as a full stop rather than a stopover. Guests arriving for multi-day tours of central Mongolia use the camp as a base between the old capital and the wider steppe, and staff can arrange guiding, translation, or driver services beyond the property itself. At night, temperatures drop fast and the sky over the plain fills with stars, uninterrupted by any nearby town light.
