Night Game Drives

This is not the brief spotlight sweep back to camp after drinks. Guests head out with a picnic dinner and a flask of soup, driving into the dark under a sky thick with stars. Guides use red-filtered bulbs so the beam does not startle animals, tracking movement across the grassland until they locate something worth watching, a pride readying itself to hunt, perhaps. Then the vehicle switches to infrared floodlights and cameras, letting guests observe the scene without the animals sensing a human presence at all. The quiet itself, away from any artificial light, is worth the trip.
