Shambaling Boutique Hotel

Four floors, four elements: white for sky, red for fire, blue for water, yellow for earth. Shambaling Boutique Hotel is built into a structure that once housed Tibetan pilgrims, dating to the early 1970s, and its 64 rooms carry that lineage forward through Tibetan-style joinery, prayer flags, and hand-built wooden closets rather than generic hotel fittings. Rooms range from 20 m² superior singles to 45 m² suites, and several deluxe rooms face the monastery, so mornings open with the sound of prayer rather than traffic. Bathrooms come with rain showers or tubs, herbal amenities, and a minibar; suites add a bottle of wine and fresh fruit on arrival. Meals run between two restaurants: Lungta, an indoor space with an open kitchen and seating for around 50, and Lingka, a garden restaurant under a peepal tree strung with prayer flags. A Cave Yoga Lounge, built from wood and stone, sits apart for meditation and stretching. Coffee comes from Himalayan beans roasted locally. It is a compact stay, founded by Dawa Sigrist and Sonam Sherpa in 2010 as a tribute to their Tibetan heritage, and it was the first hotel outside Europe to receive the SWISS-Q1 quality label.
