Sharq Village & Spa a Ritz-Carlton Hotel
Doha's waterfront gave this resort its form: built low and spread out like a village, with courtyards, arched passages and Qatari architectural detail standing in place of a single tower block. The design draws on the country's building traditions rather than the glass skyline visible across the water. Rooms keep to a human scale, each with air conditioning, a private bathroom and a work desk, and a Ritz-Kids tent adds a dedicated space for younger guests. The setting favours calm over height. Three outdoor pools sit among palm trees, including an infinity pool with a waterfall and whirlpool, and a private stretch of sand runs along the front of the property. Each evening, staff in traditional dress light bakhoor incense in the lobby, with Arabic coffee, dates and baklava passed round as the ritual moves through the room. Dining runs from Persian cuisine at Parisa to Levantine plates at Al Liwan and Mediterranean seafood at Al Dana, which looks straight onto the beach. The Ritz-Carlton Spa and a 24-hour fitness centre sit apart from the main pool terraces. It is a five-minute reach from Souq Waqif and the National Museum of Qatar, and about ten minutes by car from the airport. The result reads less like a hotel and more like a walled settlement rebuilt in stone and shade.
