Mokoro Excursions

A mokoro is a traditional dugout canoe, poled quietly through the Okavango Delta's channels and lagoons by a local guide. Shinde Footsteps sits on a private concession with water year-round, so the excursion runs regardless of season. Gliding low over the water, past papyrus and lily-covered lagoons, gives a vantage point no vehicle can match, and brings guests close to the Delta's smaller life: frogs, birds, dragonflies, the odd grazing lechwe on the floodplain. It is a slow, silent way to cover ground that is otherwise inaccessible, and a departure from the pace of a game drive.
