Singita Kwitonda Lodge
Nine suites and a private villa on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
Skip to product information
Volcanoes National Park rises directly behind the property, its three peaks — Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura — visible from every suite. The lodge sits at the park boundary, where high-altitude forest meets open grassland grazed by buffalo. Forest elephants wander down occasionally. Eight suites and the four-bedroom Kataza House villa are joined by volcanic stone paths to a central lodge built from local materials, with handcrafted furnishings throughout. Each suite has a fireplace, a private plunge pool, and a verandah facing the mountains; some sleep as pairs for families or groups travelling together.
Treks into the park depart most mornings in search of mountain gorillas, which make up over a third of the world's remaining population, or golden monkeys in the bamboo forest nearby. A 2.2 km walking trail behind the lodge climbs through eucalyptus to the on-site Akarabo Nursery, planted with hundreds of thousands of saplings to help restore gorilla habitat. Guests can throw pottery there, join a cooking class, or visit the village of Gasura, thirty minutes away, for a cultural morning with local families. The wine cellar draws on Singita's broader collection across its African properties.
Check-in runs from 1pm. Nine rooms in total keep the lodge intimate, and the pace, once the trek is done, turns unhurried.
