Siwash Lake Wilderness Resort & Ranch

Set on a ridge above wildflower meadows and a private lake, Star Camp is one of three ways to stay at Siwash Lake, a working ranch on 10,000 acres of Cariboo rangeland in British Columbia. The main lodge, built from hand-hewn spruce logs, holds a river-rock fireplace and cathedral ceilings; the heritage barn's hay loft has been converted into a two-room suite with corrals just outside the door. Star Camp itself sits apart, a cluster of canvas tents and cabins reached by a climb up from the water. The resort caps capacity at twelve to sixteen guests and rarely hosts more than four groups at once. It is a compact stay. Horses are the main mode of transport here, with over 100 km of trail through grassland, forest and wetland recovering from a 2017 wildfire; guides also lead fly fishing, archery and lakeside yoga. Power comes from a 12kW solar array backed by battery storage, and wood furnaces heat most buildings. Meals draw on a ranch garden and foraged ingredients, served in the dining room or on the Ranch House deck. You can hear horses moving between pasture and corral from the barn loft's private balcony. The season runs May to September, with check-in from 3pm.
