Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opéra

Founded on ground where the Lumière brothers gave film its first public screening, and once home to the Jockey Club and to Josephine Baker between engagements, the building on Rue Scribe carries more history than its Haussmann facade lets on. It is a corner address, at Boulevard des Capucines, in the 9th arrondissement. Interiors by designer Tristan Auer nod to the Opéra district outside the door, in warm wood, deep tubs and fireplaces rather than pastiche. There are 201 rooms and 38 suites, from Superior rooms facing the courtyard to the Scribe Apartment, a two-room set-up with a balcony and a separate living room. The Honeymoon Suite has a round bed and a signature soaking tub. Downstairs, Rivages serves bistronomic dishes under a glass roof, and Scribe & Cie. runs a café with a summer terrace on the site where Louis Vuitton opened his first Paris boutique in 1871. Bar Rivages, with its half-moon counter, hosts live jazz on Thursdays. You can walk to the Louvre or Place Vendôme in minutes; the spa sits on the sixth floor, near Palais Garnier. Seven meeting rooms handle events from small gatherings to receptions. The hotel holds Green Key certification for its third year, with zero single-use plastics and its own water filtration system.
