Sokala Villas

Sokala Villas is six self-catering villas set at the quiet end of Muri Beach in Rarotonga. Four have private plunge pools, and every villa sits close enough to the lagoon that guests can wade in for a snorkel before breakfast. Beachfront villas and lagoon-view villas both run to two levels, with a loft bedroom on a mezzanine floor above a ground-floor kitchen and lounge; the beachfront-with-pool villas are single storey instead. Each bedroom holds a king bed, and most open onto a private deck fitted with sun loungers. It is an adults-only property. Kitchens carry an oven, microwave, fridge and coffee plunger, so guests can cook in rather than walk the short stretch to Muri's night market and restaurants. There is no daily housekeeping; guests swap their own laundry at the office instead, a self-service arrangement most find suits a slow morning. Decks face the lagoon and its scatter of uninhabited islets, and at night the waves settle close enough to hear from bed. Staff run transfers, grocery runs and barbecue set-ups on request, keeping the operation small and personal rather than staffed at scale. Muri's waters stay shallow and warm for swimming and paddling.
