Soomaa Puhkeküla
Canoeing is how most guests get to know this stretch of the Halliste River, and Soomaa Puhkeküla is set up for exactly that. The property is a cluster of recently built or renovated houses on the riverbank, each with its own character, holding thirty-two beds in total. Soomaa National Park surrounds it, a landscape of bog and looping rivers known locally for a spring flood season nicknamed the fifth season, when the water rises and canoes become the practical way to move around. Rooms are simple and comfortably furnished, with Wi-Fi, a television, and a private bathroom; guests share a fully equipped kitchen, since the nearest shop is roughly 15 km away in Tori. Eight marked trails lead into the surrounding forest and bog, some suited to snowshoes in winter. You can rent a canoe, a boat, or a bicycle directly from the property and set out from the door. Check-in runs from 3pm, checkout by noon. It is a working base for a wet, wooded corner of Estonia, not a polished retreat.
