Overlooking Asheten Mariam Mountain and the valleys around Lalibela, Sora Lodge is 27 rooms in four configurations, all with views of the highlands and villages below. The lodge opened in October 2013 as a family-run property and sits a fifteen-minute walk from the southern group of rock-hewn churches and twenty minutes from the northern group. Six tukul rooms occupy traditional round huts added in 2017, each with a private balcony, a bathroom, and hot water. The 12 rock-hewn rooms are built with stone by local masons and were completed in 2018; they include satellite television, a mini-bar, a hairdryer, and a private balcony. Tree houses stand at the cliff edge, built from ecological materials, with a queen-size bed on the upper level and a bathroom below. Nine standard rooms fill a three-storey building; each floor has verandas facing east and west. The restaurant is round, thatched, and painted with angels on the ceiling. It sits lower on the hill and faces the valley, the river, and the mountains. The menu covers Ethiopian and international dishes; vegetables come from the lodge's own garden. Cooking classes teach guests to bake injera and prepare shiro. A sunset bar opened in 2019 serves aperitifs and cocktails. Massage and spa services are available by reservation. Trekking routes include farm visits in nearby villages. Airport shuttle service, laundry, and complimentary breakfast are standard.
