The building is a national monument dated 1879, standing on the riverbank in central Rotterdam. It once served as a customs office, and the old management quarters and director's residence now hold guest suites rather than clerks. No two rooms match. Comfort rooms run to 20 square metres; the Art Suite, designed with artist Liesbeth van Ginneken, spans 68 square metres across two lockable rooms with two bathrooms, one fitted with a steam cabin and massage shower, the other with a double whirlpool.

Furniture throughout leans on reused materials: bicycle-tyre cabinets, sea-chart lamps, a table built from old mooring posts. The Romantic Suite keeps a gas fireplace and a freestanding English bathtub behind wooden shutters, with the bath positioned for river views. You can see the city's bridges and skyline from several rooms on the upper floors. Rooms come with air conditioning, an espresso machine, a minibar and organic bathroom products from Grown Alchemist.

The hotel has held a gold Green Key certificate since 2010 and has had guests plant trees by skipping housekeeping for a night. A quay terrace and lounge bar sit at ground level, and a water taxi stop lies just outside. Check-in runs from 3pm.
