Sunset Resort Rarotonga
Adults-only beachfront resort on Rarotonga's sunset coast, thirty-five suites and studios
Sunset Resort is beachfront on Rarotonga's west coast, where the lagoon runs pale turquoise against white sand. It takes its name from the coastline itself, known locally for its evening light, and the beach faces open water uninterrupted by reef break close to shore. Palms and lawn separate the two pools from a row of tropical gardens, and thirty-five suites and studios are split between garden, poolside and beachfront positions. The resort is adults-only, for guests aged fifteen and over. Beachfront studios and the two-bedroom beachfront suite look straight over the lagoon from a private covered patio, while poolside rooms face the gardens or one of the swimming pools instead. Each room has a kitchenette, air conditioning and a king bed, with twins available on request. Between June and October, whales pass along this stretch of coast, visible from loungers, the beach cabana or the swim-up Birdcage Bar. The on-site Anchorage Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner under open sides, with occasional live music in the evenings. A guest laundry sits on site, and free transfers run to Saturday market and Sunday church services in Arorangi. Check-out is followed by hospitality rooms for a shower before the airport run. It is a short drive from the island's main town and its Saturday market.
