Birding

Tswalu's dry, open terrain shelters an unusually wide range of birds, with over 260 species logged on the reserve. Guides lead outings on foot at dawn or by vehicle later in the day, tracking down Kalahari regulars such as sandgrouse gathering at waterholes, bee-eaters, sociable weavers with their communal nests, and various raptors adapted to desert life. Sightings vary with season and light, and guides read the terrain to find the more elusive residents. It pairs well with Tarkuni's other outdoor pursuits, adding a slower, close-focus counterpoint to game drives.
