Stargazing

Dry desert air and almost no artificial light give the southern Kalahari some of the darkest, sharpest skies in South Africa. Guests can look up from a private deck, pause during a game drive at dusk, or walk out to a spot among the dunes. A guide points out constellations and explains how they are read, drawing on both Southern Hemisphere astronomy and stories passed down through Kalahari communities. Those staying at Malori, Tswalu's under-canvas camp, can fall asleep beneath the open sky itself, with no electric light to compete with the stars.
