Taufua Beach Fales

Lalomanu Beach runs for a mile along Samoa's south coast, and Taufua sits directly on its sand, three generations into a family-run stay. Guests arrive to a choice of six room types across two collections: open and closed fales built in Polynesian style, and villas with en-suite bathrooms facing the water or the hills behind. An open fale sleeps up to four guests steps from the shore, walled only by woven screens and open air. Every stay includes breakfast at sunrise and dinner at sunset, served buffet style at a shared table looking out over the Pacific. No extra charge applies, and no booking is needed beyond turning up. On Wednesday and Saturday nights, a fiafia performance brings drumming, dance, and storytelling to the beach after dinner. By day, boats run out to the uninhabited islands of Nuutele, Nuulua, and Namua for snorkelling over coral reef, and a guided walk climbs inland to a dormant volcanic crater thick with rainforest. The property was founded by Taufua Sio, who died in the 2009 tsunami along with 13 family members; his children rebuilt it from nothing, and it now passes to a third generation. Kayaks and snorkel gear are available on site. It is a working family business as much as a place to sleep.
