The Amauris Vienna
Set beneath high stucco ceilings, the interiors mix marble, dark wood and pieces from the owning family's private art collection. It has operated as a hotel since 2007, joining Relais & Châteaux, the association founded in 1954 that now numbers more than 580 independent hotels and restaurants. Eleven room categories run from a 25 m² Classic room to a three-bedroom Opera Suite of 226 m², most facing either the Ringstrasse or a quiet inner courtyard. Each room carries a set of chosen objects: a book, a piece of Viennese art, a board game, a design object. Downstairs, Glasswing Restaurant holds a Michelin star under chef Alexandru Simon, while Glasswing Bar & Bistro serves an Austrian-Asian menu among velvet chairs and marble accents. On Thursday and Saturday evenings the bar turns over to live singers; Friday brings a rotating DJ. There is a terrace for outdoor dining in summer and warmer drinks in winter, and a small spa with pool for guests who want quiet after the museums close. Dogs are welcome throughout. The hotel stands between the Vienna State Opera and the Musikverein, close enough to walk to either after dinner.
