The Barrister Hotel

Set within a former law firm's Palazzo on St Christopher's Street, The Barrister occupies one of Valletta's grand limestone residences, two blocks from St George's Square. The building's wooden Maltese balconies and stone facade survive largely intact, with a glass-domed skylight crowning the staircase inside. Rooms overlook the restored walls of a cloistered nunnery across the street, and most face this quiet, stone-paved lane rather than the city's busier corners. Superior Rooms start at 16 m², with king beds and writing desks; Deluxe Rooms run from 30 m² and can sleep more than two. Some Deluxe Rooms open onto a Maltese balcony with a wide street view, while a select few, set on the top floor, have private rooftop terraces. The largest of these come with a heated hot tub and a clear line of sight to the Mediterranean beyond the rooftops. It is a compact stay, with fourteen rooms in total across the converted townhouse. Strait Street, once lined with bars for British servicemen, runs past the corner and has since filled again with restaurants, gin bars and live venues. Check-in runs from 2pm. Guests can walk to the Grandmaster's Palace in a few minutes, and the concierge arranges airport transfers and restaurant bookings on request.
