The Hideaway Boutique Hotel

The Hideaway Boutique Hotel is a 14-room property built into a residential stretch of Kigali, a few miles from the Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial and the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Each room takes its name from a feature of the Rwandan landscape — Kivu, Muhabura, Bisoke, Karisimbi — and the naming carries through to the décor, where earthy tones and textured fabrics stand in for the lakes and volcanoes on the map. Rooms run from compact doubles with a balcony to a one-bedroom penthouse suite with a private terrace and city view. All have air conditioning, a minibar and a private bathroom. The rooftop restaurant serves breakfast daily and dinner through the evening, with a bar list that runs from Rwandan Virunga Gold to cognac and grower Bordeaux. It is a compact stay, but a full one: a gym, a wellness centre and an outdoor pool sit alongside the restaurant and bar, and the front desk runs around the clock. Guests can look over the hills from the terrace at dusk, or start the day with African coffee and eggs cooked to order downstairs. Airport pick-up can be arranged ahead of arrival, and late check-ins are accommodated with notice — useful in a city most visitors reach after a long transit.
