THE LODGE Torsby
Set on the shore of Lake Nedre Brocken in Värmland, THE LODGE Torsby occupies a former country inn built in 1836. The main house holds comfort rooms of 17 to 25 square metres and family rooms up to 32 square metres, each with a private bathroom and free Wi-Fi. Two neighbouring cottages, Esmee's Cottage and Tullhuset, sleep between two and six people and add their own kitchens and lake views. It is a small, family-run stay rather than a hotel chain.

Rooms keep their old proportions and wooden detailing, a legacy of the building's near two-century run as a roadside inn. Guests can borrow canoes, kayaks and mountain bikes directly from the property, or arrange a husky hiking tour, quad safari or disc golf session nearby. In winter the same base works for cross-country skiing, snow scooter tours and a visit to the Torsby Ski Tunnel. The Hovfjället Nature Reserve, Sweden's southernmost fjäll landscape, sits within easy reach.

Breakfast is served daily and includes fresh-baked bread. Storage is available for guests travelling with their own bikes or paddling gear. Marc Houbiers and Joanne Kloosterboer, who took over the property in 2015, run it themselves and speak Swedish, English, German and Dutch.
