The Maun Studios

Green is the dominant fact here: a tree canopy over a garden that has been growing since the early 1970s. The Maun Studios keeps just two rooms, the King-bed River Studio and the twin-bed Garden Studio, each with its own kitchenette, air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Both sit inside a private, fenced garden on the Thamalakane River, planted originally by Phyllis Palmer, who ran one of Maun's first plant nurseries and supplied stock to many of the town's older gardens. The Palmer family has lived on this ground since the early 1970s, and the current studios, opened in 2020, continue that household rather than replace it. A thatched boma anchors the outdoor space, used for breakfast and sundowners. There is a pool. Birdlife is constant along the riverbank, and guests can walk the grounds down to the water. It is a small, quiet setup, closer to staying in someone's garden than checking into a hotel. Breakfast is included each morning, laundry service is available, and Wi-Fi runs throughout. Maun itself, gateway to the Okavango Delta, is a short drive from the gate. The studios suit travellers who want a base to sleep and reset between flights and safari transfers, not a destination in itself.
