The Place

Arriving along the white sand of Tokeh Beach, guests reach The Place after an 18-mile drive south from central Freetown, past the fishing villages of the Western Area peninsula. The resort sits across 15 acres of tropical forest between wooded hills and the Atlantic. Villas are self-contained. Each has a private terrace facing the ocean, the garden or the hills behind, along with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and its own living and dining space. Days run toward the water: sailing lessons on the resort's own catamarans, jet ski runs along Tokeh Beach, or a boat trip out to nearby islands for a seafood lunch cooked on an open fire. A pool sits shaded by palms near the beachside restaurant, where the kitchen turns out fresh seafood and a sunset view over the Atlantic. Guides lead hikes into the hills above the resort in the cool of early morning, tracking trails through forest before the heat sets in. In the evening, the sound of fishermen at work carries down the beach. The resort also runs meeting rooms and an outdoor venue on the sand, built to hold events from small conferences to gatherings of several hundred. Lungi International Airport connects to Freetown, with the resort able to arrange transfers for arriving guests.
