The River House Upscale Lodge

Arriving by road off the Calacalí–La Independencia highway, guests reach The River House through a mountainside of cloud forest above Puerto Quito. Six chalets are named rather than numbered: Mozzafiato, Trouvaille, Saudade, Serendipity, Inefable, Sprezzatura. Each is built from fine timber and set with a private balcony; Trouvaille has two, and Saudade, the family chalet, runs larger than the rest. Serendipity sits closest to the birdsong. Bamboo and tall trees ring Inefable. Frank runs the place as host rather than manager, on call for guests by phone. A resident naturalist leads bird walks built on two decades of fieldwork in the forest, reading behaviour and song rather than ticking off species. The Chocó Trail leads from the property through wet forest to a waterfall carved into a shape like a caiman's mouth. Spa treatments draw on Filipino healing traditions: Hilot bodywork, Pindot pressure work for muscle tension, and reflexology on the hands and feet. Rooms run on fibre internet and queen beds with memory foam and 1,200-thread sheets. An EV charger is fitted on site. It is a quiet, working landscape, not a resort strip.
