The Shark Residence
Rooms here are plain and cool, tiled floors underfoot, air conditioning running quietly against the island heat. Hedheykuri Residence is a newly built four-bedroom house in Fuvahmulah's Dhoodigan district, on an island known locally for its resident tiger sharks and a biosphere reserve status rare in the Maldives. It sits five to eight minutes on foot from the airport, the harbour, the old site of Vashoveyo and a stretch of harbour-side beach. Each room has its own bathroom with hot water and a work desk. The living room, kitchen and a wide balcony are shared among guests when the house is full. Smoking is confined to the balcony and terrace. Guests cook for themselves in a kitchen fitted with a stovetop, oven and full-size refrigerator. You can hear the harbour from the terrace at night, boats idling before early dive trips. A washer and dryer are available for a fee, ironing is free. The harbour itself is a fifteen-minute walk, past a scatter of restaurants and a small grocery. It is a quiet house. Wi-Fi runs throughout the building at no charge, and the owner keeps a room aside for storing dive and cycling gear. This is not a resort with a private beach and a spa menu; it is a base for people who came for the sharks, the lakes and the diving, and want somewhere clean and well run to sleep between trips.
