The Tamara Coorg
Set on a ridge above Kabbinakad, more than 3,500 feet up in the Western Ghats, The Tamara Coorg sits inside 184 acres of working coffee plantation near Virajpet. The 56 cottages stand on stilts, a method chosen to keep the ground and its root systems undisturbed, and are built from Canadian spruce with detailing drawn from Kerala's timber architecture. Mist settles over the estate most mornings. Rooms range from the Luxury Cottage, a compact 660 sq ft layout with a private sun deck and valley views, to the Eden Lotus Cottage, which spans 1,670 sq ft across two bedrooms and opens onto a private deck with a central Jacuzzi and a glass-roofed ceiling facing east. The Suite Cottage covers 992 sq ft and separates bedroom from living room, with large windows built for daylight rather than decoration. Paths lead through the plantation past unnamed waterfalls, and guides run walks tied to the coffee harvest, from flower to finished brew. An off-road route climbs to nearly 1,600 metres for views toward Tadiyandamol, Coorg's highest peak. The estate also runs its own solar plant and rainwater harvesting system. It is a working landscape as much as a place to stay, and the plantation air, thick with the smell of drying coffee cherries, follows you from the deck to the trail.
