The White Swan Hotel
Set on Rother Street in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, The White Swan occupies a timber-framed building dating to 1450, its Grade II listing intact through centuries of use as an inn. The façade leans and settles the way old timber does. Inside, oak panelling and an open fire frame the restaurant, where a medieval mural survives on one wall. The hotel holds 41 rooms across the building, no two quite alike, since the historic structure resists uniformity room to room. Character rooms, set in the oldest wing, keep original features such as beamed ceilings alongside deep-fill copper baths and walk-in showers. Grand rooms add space and a separate bath and shower; two ground-floor rooms are built for wheelchair access, with wider doorways and wet rooms. Every room carries a pocket-sprung mattress and Egyptian cotton linen, a flat-screen TV, and tea and coffee facilities. Downstairs, the bar and dining room serve a daily-changing menu of pub food alongside a Sunday roast, with three function rooms — Capulet, Montague, and the combined Capulet and Montague Suite — handling private dining and events for up to 81 seated guests. Holy Trinity Church and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre are both a short walk away. Check-in runs from 3pm.
