Topas Riverside Lodge
Set on a hilltop inside Hoang Lien National Park, Topas Ecolodge looks down over terraced rice valleys some 18 km from Sapa town. The drive in takes about forty-five minutes on a mountain road that can be rough after rain. Fifty bungalows and villas climb the slope, each cut from local white granite in a chalet form, their stone walls built to outlast the region's wet winters and sudden downpours. Interiors run to a Scandinavian minimalism of pale wood and plain lines, a deliberate contrast to the ornate joinery found elsewhere in the valley. It's a quiet pairing. Two saltwater infinity pools sit at the property's edge, one heated year-round, the other an adults-only pool with a jacuzzi. Pool Villas add a private eco-heated plunge pool and their own veranda, screened from the rest of the lodge. Deluxe Suites run 60 m2 across two floors, with underfloor heating and a walk-in closet. Restaurant 360 serves breakfast with views over the Muong Hoa valley, while the Stilt House Restaurant occupies a pair of relocated Tay timber houses. Staff are hired from nearby Red Dao and H'Mong villages, and trails from the lodge lead directly into them. The lodge draws its water heat from underground air pumps and treats wastewater through a constructed wetland on site.
