Destination: Ideally situated on the western edge of Hunda Island, Tubu Tree is home to great concentrations of wildlife, delivering spectacular game viewing on drives, guided walks and on water adventures. This combination of activities ensures time spent at Tubu Tree is the complete Delta experience.

Experience: Truly one of Earth’s ultimate, untamed places, Tubu Tree is the ideal setting for exhilarating wildlife encounters. Renowned for its predator sightings, from exciting day and night game drives look out for solitary leopards on the prowl, and wild dogs and hyenas. On a traditional dugout canoe, or mokoro, explore the Delta channels here – alive with scores of brilliant birds, tiny reed frogs and mud-caked hippos. Catch-and-release fishing and boating complete the safari experiences at Tubu Tree.

Purpose: In our quest to conserve and protect the world’s most iconic wildlife destinations, we are intimately involved in projects that support sustainable conservation, specifically curbing poaching and overfishing.

Wildlife: A wildlife wonderland, guests can look forward to remarkable sightings here on Hunda Island, the largest dryland area in this iconic wetland. Look out for elephant, Burchell’s zebra, red lechwe, southern giraffe, tsessebe and blue wildebeest in the floodplains. Kudu, impala, bushbuck, and leopard are usually seen in the forested areas. A beautiful variety of birdlife can also be seen. Dryland species can be spotted on the larger islands, and a multitude of wetland birds can be seen in the floodplains and waterways.

Tubu Tree: As its name indicates, this eight-tented traditional-style camp is set into a tree canopy on elevated wooden walkways, with uninterrupted views over the surrounding floodplains. The family unit has two adjoining tents, separate bathrooms and a shared lounge. The main area, set around a majestic anthill, features finishes like light oak, live-edge wood, rattan, and thatch, bringing wilderness elements indoors. By day, the pool deck invites quiet contemplation of the panoramic view, while the Tubu Star Bed offers a romantic night under the magnificent African sky.

Rebuilt in June 2024, Tubu Tree Camp is located on the western edge of Hunda Island in the Jao Reserve — the largest dry-land area within the concession. Surrounded by a mosaic of mopane woodland, acacia forest and seasonal floodplains, the camp offers exceptional year-round game viewing, particularly renowned for leopard, lion, wild dog and large herds of elephant and buffalo.

Guests enjoy both day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, with wildlife movements influenced by seasonal water levels, ensuring every stay offers a dynamic and varied safari experience. During high water months (typically May to September), boating, seasonal fishing and mokoro excursions provide an additional water-based perspective of the Delta.

The camp features eight elevated tented suites, including a spacious family unit with two adjoining tents and a shared lounge, all offering expansive floodplain views. Tubu Tree is connected to Little Tubu via raised wooden walkways, allowing larger groups to combine both camps seamlessly.

INSIDER’S TIP: The raised Star Bed sleep-out offers an unforgettable night under the African sky in true predator country.
