Ubucuti Lodge

Fitted with a fireplace in the lounge and wide terraces facing the water, Ubucuti Lodge trades on quiet rather than spectacle. Five rooms and one suite make up the accommodation, along with a family room that joins two of them, each fitted with air conditioning, a television, and a private bathroom. Outside, a garden and terrace step down towards the lake, with an outdoor pool and a spa for the slower hours between activities. The restaurant runs a mixed menu, and the bar keeps a working cocktail list, staffed by its own mixologist. Guided hikes can be arranged with notice, and the lodge runs boat trips on the lake, scheduled or private, including a sunset cruise and a run out to Napoleon Island near Kibuye. Transfers by boat are also available for guests moving along the shoreline. It is a compact stay, built around the lake rather than away from it. Gisenyi itself lies close by, with its market streets and lakefront promenade giving an easy counterpoint to the lodge's stillness. From the terrace at dusk you can watch the fishing boats head out with their lanterns lit for the night's catch.
