Check-in at Unipark Hotel puts guests square in the middle of Guayaquil, facing Seminario Park and its resident iguanas. The hotel is part of the Unicentro complex, begun in 1975 as one of the city's first shopping malls; partway through construction, its founder José Antón Díaz converted the planned office floors into a hotel instead. It opened in 1982, in time to host swimmers for that year's World Championship, and has run as a fixture of the city centre since.
Rooms number 140 across four categories, from Standard to Deluxe Suite, and range from 20 to 50 square metres. Each has cable TV, a minibar, a safe, air conditioning, and a hairdryer, with wood flooring and tiled bathrooms throughout. Many look directly onto the park; some Deluxe rooms take in the cathedral as well. Double-glazed windows keep upper floors quiet. Bathrooms carry marble detailing and rainfall showers, and a handful of rooms add a Jacuzzi tub.
Three restaurants cover the day, from a breakfast buffet at La Fundadora to sushi at the Lobby Bar, where the park view holds through the evening. A gym, sauna, and Jacuzzi round out the leisure side, and five function rooms carry over from the building's convention-hall origins. Wi-Fi runs hotel-wide.
